Whilst we're all becoming growingly reliant on advanced technology, we also find ourselves increasingly more reliant upon the commercially qualified networking professionals, who ensure the systems function properly.

At times people don't understand what information technology is about. It's stimulating, innovative, and means you're doing your bit in the gigantic wave of technology that will affect us all over the next generation. We're only just starting to get an inclination of how technology will define our world. Technology and the web will massively change the way we regard and interact with the entire world over the coming years.

If making decent money is around the top on your list of priorities, then you'll appreciate the fact that the average salary for the majority of IT staff is much more than salaries in other market sectors. Because the IT market sector is still emerging year on year, it's likely that the requirement for appropriately qualified IT professionals will continue to boom for decades to come.

Don't get hung-up, as can often be the case, on the accreditation program. Training for training's sake is generally pointless; you should be geared towards the actual job at the end of it. Focus on the end-goal. It's not unheard of, for example, to obtain tremendous satisfaction from a year of studying only to end up putting 20 long years into a job you hate, entirely because you stumbled into it without some decent due-diligence at the beginning.

Be honest with yourself about the income level you aspire to and the level of your ambition. Often, this changes which particular accreditations will be required and what you can expect to give industry in return. Talk to someone that knows about the sector you're looking at, and could provide a detailed run-down of what you actually do in that role. Getting all these things right well before commencement of any study program has obvious benefits.

Some training providers offer a Job Placement Assistance service, to help you get your first job. With the huge demand for appropriately skilled people in Great Britain even when times are hard, there isn't a great need to become overly impressed with this service however. It really won't be that difficult to secure employment once you're trained and certified.

Help and assistance with preparing a CV and getting interviews is sometimes offered (if not, see one of our sites for help). Ensure you bring your CV right up to date straight away - not after you've qualified! Getting your CV considered is better than being rejected. A decent number of junior jobs are offered to trainees (sometimes when they've only just got going.) Generally, a specialist independent regional recruitment consultancy - who make their money when they've found you a job - should get better results than any division of a training company. In addition, they will no doubt be familiar with the local area and commercial needs.

Not inconsiderable numbers of students, it would appear, spend evenings and weekends on their training and studies (for years sometimes), and then just stop instead of trying to get their first job. Market yourself... Work hard to get yourself known. Don't expect a job to just fall into your lap.

If an advisor doesn't ask you a lot of questions - chances are they're really a salesperson. If they wade straight in with a specific product before looking at your personality and current experience level, then it's definitely the case. If you've got any real-world experience or qualifications, your starting-point of learning is very different to someone completely new. Commencing with a foundation module first will sometimes be the most effective way to get up and running on your IT program, but really depends on your level of familiarity with computers.
